This policy explains what personal information SOS School of Steering ("we", "us") collects about you, why we collect it, and what rights you have. We are the data controller for this information under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.

What we collect
When you enquire about or book lessons with us, we may collect:
- Your name, phone number and email address
- Your pick-up address and postcode
- Your provisional or full driving licence number, which we are required to check
- Your date of birth
- Lesson history, progress notes and mock test results
- Payment records (we do not store your full card details)
This website
This website does not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or analytics that identify you personally. There is no contact form — the phone and email links simply open your own phone or email app.
Our website is hosted by Vercel Inc. Like nearly all web hosts, Vercel automatically records basic technical request logs, which may include IP addresses, for security and reliability. We do not use these to identify individual visitors.
Why we use your information
- To provide lessons you've asked for — scheduling, pick-ups, progress tracking and taking payment. Lawful basis: performance of a contract.
- To meet legal obligations — checking licence validity and keeping financial records for HMRC. Lawful basis: legal obligation.
- To answer your enquiry — replying when you call or email. Lawful basis: legitimate interests.
We do not sell your information, and we do not send marketing messages unless you have asked us to.
Who we share it with
We share personal information only where we need to:
- The DVSA, when booking or attending your theory or practical test
- Our payment provider, to take and record payments
- Our accountant, for bookkeeping and tax
- Our insurer, if there is an incident involving one of our vehicles
How long we keep it
We keep lesson and pupil records for up to 3 years after your last lesson, in case you return to us or need a reference. Financial records are kept for 6 years, as HMRC requires. Enquiries that don't lead to a booking are deleted within 12 months.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- Ask for a copy of the information we hold about you
- Ask us to correct anything that is wrong
- Ask us to delete your information, where we are not legally required to keep it
- Object to, or ask us to restrict, how we use it
- Withdraw consent at any time, where we relied on your consent

Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page.
